this is a cool little spit of a village, at the entrance of the lencois san dunes national park. it is one dirt road, a few scattered homes on either side, a couple of shops and when i was there the foundations for a new bed and breakfast which i assume is now in operation. when i was there i stayed at a private home, showered by pumping water out of an undergrond well, and ate the freshest, most delicious grilled fish. the people are very poor. maranhao is one of brasil's poorest state and this region lacks most basic infrastructure. i was fascinated however by the number of satelite dishes. one thing you can be sure of in brasil: everyone, EVERYONE, is hooked on soap operas. Posted by Picasa
